TMJ therapy and Intraoral treatment
HEADACHES | MIGRAINES | JAW PAIN | NECK PAIN | CHRONIC TENSION |. TINNITUS
My approach is rooted in a strong background of anatomy, and I focus on both treating specific areas and relaxing the nervous system in a deeply calming way. Whether we work seated or on the table, we look for patterns that are creating tension and use a combination of massage, stretching, and somatic techniques to find release and ease. My work is informed by osteopathic and craniosacral traditions, fascial release, and neurofascial work that targets tethered or inflamed nerves.
You may have popping or clicking in the jaw, difficulty opening the mouth fully, or pain in the jaw or ears. Intraoral massage is a specialized type of work that can help relieve painful symptoms by working with the neck, head, outer jaw, and inner mouth. I have an Intraoral Endorsement from the Washington State Department of Health to work inside the mouth, accessing the deep muscles at the back of the jaw that can drive headaches and chronic jaw pain. TMD can be associated with clenching and grinding at night, dental procedures, stress, migraines, whiplash, chronic sinus congestion, or trauma to the head or face. The goal is to improve pain-free range of motion, relieve tension, and work towards balanced alignment of the jaw.
This work can also help with tinnitus (a ringing, buzzing, whistling, or clicking sound in the ears), and studies show that massage of the neck, ears, head, and jaw can significantly reduce symptoms or eliminate them altogether.
I will help you to be inquisitive about your own definition of health, what it would look like if you felt better, and how to adjust our work to your individual process. I am happy to work with your other healthcare providers as a collaborative team.
